I’m in the process of radically shifting my life. It all started mid-November 2016 and it’s been going strong since. I talked about this big change the podcast episodes: Radical Shift part 1 and part 2.
Radically shifting means to get down into the roots of your life and look directly at exactly how we’re living. It feels like a direct path to making long-lasting change. The question that keeps coming up for me is:
What’s working and what’s not?
This simple question is easy to say, but not easy to answer.
Trust me, I’ve been asking it every hour, on the hour, for the past few months and have found that in order to answer it honestly I must have the following:
- Courage
- Curiosity
- Compassion
- Commitment
It takes courage, curiosity, compassion, and commitment to make real, long-lasting change in your life. We can talk about our New Year’s resolutions and experiment with the new fitness fad, the new diet, or the new super green. We can play around with trends for years or even decades without seeing significant change.
Or, we can get down into the roots of what’s working and what’s not and finally wake up to how we’re living. In getting honest, really honest, we can radically shift our live in a positive and more powerful way.
How can one simple question work to help us radically shift?
Well, it’s not magic. It’s not intellectual. Genuinely asking the question is being willing to face the truth of what is really working for you and what needs to go.
Let’s explore this by looking at our physical state. This is an easy one since most of us spend a load of time focused on our bodies and how we look and feel.
What’s working and what’s not working regarding your body and energy level?
Ask yourself this question. Yep, like right now. Answer it out loud or in your journal. Get real about it, not whiny or emotional but honestly and with kindness and compassion.
- Do I have enough energy?
- Am I tired all the time?
- Do I fool myself about what I’m eating or how much I’m eating?
- Am I moving my body enough?
- Do my workouts inspire me or am I going through the motions?
- What’s working to help me feel healthy and fit and what’s not?
Remember, courage, curiosity, compassion, and commitment to facing the truth gets to the root. The truth gets underneath the surface — fads you’re following and trends you believe are the “next best thing.”
When we get to the root of what’s really going on, without the BS, without the fancy apps, and the fancy yoga pants and look directly at how we’re moving, eating, breathing and sleeping, the answers will be there waiting. Yep, they’re right there waiting for you right now.
Are you ready to get to the root of how you’re living?
Are you ready to see the truth?
Let’s be honest. Most of time we don’t want to see the truth. It’s easier to hang out on the surface in the new fads and trends. We want to believe that someone out there has the answer or the new gadget that’s going to, once and for all, help us change.
If we’re really honest with ourselves we’ll admit that we don’t really want to know our unconscious habits and how they may be making us unhealthy or holding us back.
We don’t want to see the truth.
We don’t want to know how we’re not thriving in our lives, our work, our relationships, our (fill in the blank).
What’s working and what’s not?
This question is radically shifting my life. (Check out the podcast episodes: Radical Shift part 1 and part 2 for more)
No one is doing this for me. No one’s going to do this for you. You can read every article on the web, consult with every expert, try every new smoothie or supplement, but nothing is going to change until you get curious about how you’re really living.
Start today.
Ask yourself what’s working and what’s not in these areas:
- Health
- Energy
- Mental state
- Emotional state
- At home
- In your relationship with yourself and others
- At work
Remember, it takes courage, curiosity, compassion, and commitment to radically shift. If I can do it so can you.
I believe you can radically shift anything in your life if you want to.
You made it to the end. That means you are ready to change. You’re ready to radically shift.
Thank you for allowing me to tap into your world for a few minutes and share my process. It’s not a perfect process but it’s working for me and I hope, in some way, it will support you as well.
